Cannes and Marseille hold most of the fleet, and most of that fleet is crewed motor yachts. Boats cost more here than anywhere else on this list, and there is very little to rent for a single afternoon.

Why it works for a first time

France is good for the crewed week people are picturing when they picture the Mediterranean: someone else drives, someone else cooks, and the anchorage is Saint-Tropez. For that trip the fleet is deep and the coast delivers. For a cheap first day on the water, to find out whether any of this is for you, Italy or Spain will serve you better.
